After a good night's sleep and catching up on some correspondence in the morning, the sun was out and it was a good day to go hiking. Our host Elizabeth provided us with the address of great website called Walking Highlands https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk.

We took her advice, found a hike that sounded picturesque, stopped at the Glen Nevis Visitor center for a trail map, and headed toward Steall Falls in the foothills below Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK.

Several films have been shot in Glen Nevis, including some scenes from the Harry Potter movies,[6] HighlanderHighlander III: The SorcererBraveheart and Rob Roy. Wikipedia

It was a grand hike!  Before returning to our accommodations and to change our clothes for dinner out, we explored what was left of old Fort William.

Wednesday, July 25, 2018 - Neptune's Locks and drive through Loch Lomond to our last accommodation in Scotland, Newton-Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway District.

We said goodbye to our host Elizabeth on Wednesday morning, saw one last remaining site near Fort William and Spean Bridge, Neptune's Locks, a set of 8 loch bays providing boat passage from a higher lake to a lower lake or visa versa.  Through a series of locks, Caledonian Canal, and lakes, sailing vessels can circumnavigate the heart of Scotland with minimal exposure to the high seas.

Looks like it would be fun.  We watched as one sailboat was making its way upward through the locks. and several power boats and canoes were waiting their turn to go down.

After paying respects to Neptune, we spent the rest of the day traveling to Newton Stewart, via Loch Lomond National Park and Glasgow.  Newton Stewart is about half hour from where we will catch our ferry on Friday to Ireland.

Here are some photos of magnificent scenery on our way.  Every hour we would stop, take a little walk and stretch our legs.

We dropped down from the mountains to the sea, and could spot Ireland in the distance beyond the large rock island.

We arrived in Newton Stewart late in the day

and met our delightfulness hosts Brendan and Rhona
at the Stone Cottage, and showed us through the bonnie wee cottage near the river Cree.

Brendan had made us a  loaf of bread and Rhona welcomed us with a fresh pot of coffee.  Very considerate and homey.  It took us no time at all to take off our shoes and get comfy.

Today is laundry and rest day...oh aye. and some golf in Scotland.  Both weather and course look conducive to a lovely afternoon before we head off to Ireland in the morning.

Just a few Scottish Surames - Shaw in my family tree, Campbell in Russ's

Sixth hole is just above the Dragon's Castle

This course was challenging and designed for billy goats. Balls always rolled down hill away from the hole.

So we had a lovely afternoon playing golf.  Now we are off to dinner at a local hotel restaurant and then to Ireland in the morning.

All is well with the Worrall Travel R's, our last night in Scotland.
