Days 1-4 of 26,
Sunday, March 17 - Day 1
After a year of planning, and 3 weeks of packing, weighing, unpacking, repacking and weighing, repeat, our clothes, bug sprays, cosmetics, travel meds, shoes, jackets, host gifts, camera gear, reading glasses and schools supplies for Madagascar are stuffed into each a small duffle, small back pack/purse, and small handbag. Our duffles will go through, but we have an overnight layover in Paris so have had to separate a few things around. Our clothing is a layered conglomeration of what we will be experiencing varied temperature differences in our varied destinations. It is about 40 degrees F in Paris, Friendship Force homestay in Cape Town 75 F, South Africa, safari in Botswana 95+ F, exploration with National Geographic in Madagascar 85 F raining, and New York City, tourism and shows, 43 degrees F (hopefully getting warmer by the time we arrive in April).
We drove from our home to SFO, checked our duffles through to Cape Town, had lunch and boarded our plane with our small handbags, and lifted off for Paris.
On SFO train to International Terminal. |
On board
We fly northeast to tip of Greenland than southeast to Paris. |
We land at CDG in Paris about 10:50 am, go through boarder control, take a shuttle train to our hotel stop, and walk to hotel, arriving at 12:30 for lunch, and a nap. It is now about 6:30 pm, and we plan to head down for dinner and get tucked into bed for some more sleep by noon PDST. It will take a few days to get adjusted.
Blogs will be spotty on this trip because of lack of Internet connectivity on Safari and Madagascar, plus my waning desire to spend so much time on the computer.
Day 3 - Tuesday, March 19
We leave tomorrow morning around 9:00 am and will arrive in Cape Town tomorrow evening around 10:00 pm. It will be another long day!
Arrived in Cape Town Tuesday, March 19 , transferred to hotel by 11:43 pm. Fell asleep by 12:30.
Day 4, Wednesday March, 20. Equinox,
The days in Southern Hemisphere will now be shortening in length. The temperatures are starting to fall. We slept well, staggered down to the dining room for breakfast about 9:30, and met up with a fellow FF traveler, Rita from Montana After a post-breakfast walk, we retired to our room for the rest of the day for more rest and a reshuffle of stuff in our duffles. Tomorrow we will meet up, hopefully with eyes open, with the rest of our FF group to start our Cape Town homestay.
